The Southwest? or the Northwest?

The Pataha (Puh-TAH-Haw) is a hidden canyon region in Washington State. While frequently associated with wet and rainy Seattle, Washington encompasses landscapes of many hues and varieties, including everything from mountains to meadows, canyons to coast.

The Pataha is available as an original oil painting (30 x 40), an original miniature study (5 x 7), as well as in prints of various sizes and price ranges, beginning at $70.

Talking Heads That Don’t Talk

Two of the New Models in the Studio at Steve Henderson Fine Art

I must say, if the Norwegian Artist ever decided to paint nudes, I would not mind these young women modeling for him. They are built — quite literally, actually — with clothes hanger frames for bodies, and a wardrobe culled from the closets and storage units around the studio and house.

While teaching a portraiture and drawing class at the Walla Walla Community College, the Norwegian Artist mused aloud (no pun intended, by the way) how wonderful a mannequin would be — a huge step beyond the grandchild’s pink ball that the N.A. painted white for the sphere-drawing exercise. The man has only to speak before the manager is on the move, and within a week the cosmetology department of the college was contacted and the heads were hunted down and secured.

We’re not used to our newest residents yet. Roxy the Dog wonders at these new studio inhabitants who look, but do not smell, like humans. The Son and Heir, closing up the studio for the night, was momentarily nonplussed by what he initially thought were late, silent visitors. In the morning, the Norwegian Artist was grateful that the Twilight Zone is not real, and that the mannequins did not move or paint anything during the night.

While the mannequins are not for sale, the Norwegian Artist’s artwork is, and it is available for view and purchase at Steve Henderson Fine Art Online Gallery.

More of Steve’s work is available at Samarah Fine Art, Whitefish, MT; Rive Gauche Galleries, Scottsdale, AZ; The Lawrence Galleries, Sheridan and Gleneden Beach, OR; and the Maritime Museum at Mystic Seaport, CT.

Within Reach: A Sense of Peace, Quiet, and Contentment

Valley Stream, by the Norwegian Artist, Steve Henderson

Much of what happens within our lives — and in the collective world around us — is disturbingly out of our control, but one of the gifts of life is that there are many little things that are within our element — from the profound — our very thoughts, hidden within the recesses of our soul — to the prosaic — which pair of socks we will wear, soup or sandwiches for lunch, the brand of laundry detergent.

Paintings on one’s wall are a means of controlling the sense of chaos around us, and we need only to walk into the room and catch their eye before our breath slows, becomes more regular, and we pause for thought.

Valley Stream is a tranquil site of hushed movement. The waterway wends its way gently into the background of trees and distant hills, and in contemplating the work, one can cast off the tension and strain of the day’s demands. The beauty of a well done painting is that it transports the viewer to a different time and a different place, without the need for actual physical displacement.

Valley Stream is available at Samarah Fine Art, Whitefish, MT (Phone: (406) 862-3339), along with a number of other landscapes by the Norwegian Artist.

In addition to Steve’s works at Samarah Fine Art, more of the Norwegian Artist’s paintings are available for view and sale at Steve Henderson Fine Art Online Gallery. Rive Gauche Galleries, Scottsdale, AZ; The Lawrence Galleries, Sheridan and Gleneden Beach, OR; and the Maritime Museum at Mystic Seaport, CT.

“Beam Me Up, Scotty. Scotty? Scotty! Where Are You, Dammit?!”

Ebb Tide by Steve Henderson of Steve Henderson Fine Art

Scotty is on the Oregon Coast, entranced by an incredible tide pool, Ebb Tide.

Of course, this same scene could be on Planet X-18, Mark VII, Quadrant IV, or some other unexplored universal body mass. The question is, why would Commander Scott have gone down there in the first place, leaving behind his beloved dilithium crystals?

Obviously, the dilithium crystals are, as they always are, having some sort of problem. Perhaps they are burning out, or losing energy — whatever it is, they simply “canna take it anymore,” and Scotty transported himself, surreptitiously, to the planet surface below and to this incredible tide pool where all sorts of sea anemones and starfish and hermit crabs bustle and teem.  Surely, he thinks, there must be some crystals here, tucked away amongst the kelp gardens.

Scotty saw Ebb Tide, was mesmerized by it, knew he had to be in that place. What he really wants is the painting, but Ebb Tide is available here and now in the 21st century at Steve Henderson Fine Art Galleries, and Scotty is bound by space and time. If you are an ancestor of Scotty, it’s time to think seriously about purchasing Ebb Tide so that it can begin passing down your future family line, eventually hanging on the wall in the transporter room.

Southwest Canyons in the Northwest’s Oregon

Joseph Canyon — Original Oil by the Norwegian Artist, Steve Henderson of Steve Henderson Fine Art

Joseph Canyon is located in Oregon, near the Hell’s Canyon National Park. Relatively level forest land abruptly and steeply drops off to the vista below, and the silence is broken only by the soft sighing of the wind. The viewer is transported to the southwest without ever leaving the northwest.

What an incredible region the Far West — Idaho, Oregon, Washington — is! If a person is not fortunate enough to live here, then he or she can own a piece of it for their wall.

Not Even Winter Yet, And We’re Thinking about Spring

Late Spring Snowpack by the Norwegian Artist, Steve Henderson of Steve Henderson Fine Art

Late Spring Snowpack blends representational work with an element of abstract. The light reflecting off of the snow introduces a series of lavenders, blues and pinks that contrast with the oranges and umbers of the foliage.
